Bronzo was one of 13 Acciaio-class submarines that were built in the early 1940s for the Italian navy. She was captured on 12th July 1943.

During WW2, the Royal Malta Artillery was tasked with anti-aircraft as well as coastal defence of the Maltese Islands.
